Alexandra Fox, a 14-year-old sophomore at Flower Mound High in Texas and the third-place finisher at the UIL Class 6A championship race Nov. 4 at Old Settlers Park along with a member of the national record 4xMile relay at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at The Armory in March, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss her preparation to compete Nov. 19 at NXR South at Bear Branch Park in The Woodlands. Fox helped Flower Mound capture a third consecutive Class 6A title, as she and junior twin sisters Nicole Humphries and Samantha Humphries swept the top three spots in the 5-kilometer race to lead the Jaguars to a 42-51 victory against Southlake Carroll. She revisits another third-place finish Oct. 24 at the Class 6A regional race and how crucial the result was to help Flower Mound hold off Southlake Carroll by a 55-56 margin. Fox explains how beneficial it has been to train with the Humphries sisters, in addition to sharing how proud she is of teammates Natalie Spangher and Ava Cole, who both finished in the top 30 at the state championship meet to help the Jaguars secure the victory. She revisits Flower Mound traveling to California to compete Sept. 16 at the 41st Woodbridge Cross Country Classic at Great Park in Irvine and how much Fox learned following her 30th-place performance on the 3-mile layout. Fox expresses gratitude for the leadership and support of coach Andrew Cook, in addition to reflecting on her freshman season and how much confidence she gained being a teammate of Natalie Cook, who captured the individual national titles at the Garmin RunningLane Championships in Alabama, along with the Eastbay Cross Country National Championships in San Diego, and is now a freshman at Oklahoma State. She shares how significant the experience was with the Humphries sisters and Cook in New York and how meaningful it was to achieve the national record of 19:37.78. Fox also reminisces about her time living in Hawaii before moving to Texas and her success as a talented age-group swimmer and how much that has helped her learn to control her breathing while running.
